ASB 12-0 Hampton & Richmond ASB turned up at Old Deer Park for the 2nd home game of the season against some new opponents in the form of Hampton & Richmond. Hampton were an unknown quantity to us so we had to guard against complacency. We also had a player making his debut, welcome Cam! After a brief warm up in the sun, Inga named his starting X1 for the game, which was:- Naz Frange Orv Tina Slouch Immy Riz Brian Sharkey Nick Jamie Subs: Cam, Billy, Rocky From the very first whistle it looked like Hampton would struggle to contain us, with a mixture of some slick passing and comical defending by H&R it was only a matter of time before we broke the deadlock. Shots were raining in on the Hampton goal from all angles but our real first opportunity came from the penalty spot. The ball rebounded to Brian and as he was about to stroke the ball into an empty net, a hampton defender dived in hands first to prevent the goal. An easy decision for Juzza to point to the spot. Riz stepped up and unfortunately putthe spot kick just wide, i think he is starting to feel the pressure of the Number 10 shirt! ASB kept on peppering the Hampton goal, our new scottish recruit Brian, hit 2 blistering shots from outside the area which the keeper did well to parry. The first goal came from an unlikely source, the ball was played out to Frange on the right who ran a few yards forward, i don't know if he thought he was Beckham for a minute but he played a delightful 40 yard cross to the back post, leaving the goalkeeper stranded and Sharkey was on hand to finish neatly. Our 2nd goal wasn't far away and it was Brian who provided it, an inswinging corner with pace went over the keepers head and straight into the back of the net. Our main threat was coming down the right hand side, Frange linking up well with Immy who was causing havoc. He really is a handful when he is in the mood, he was beating his marker time and time again with outrageous bits of skill but the impressive thing about Immy today was his workrate and determination to get back and help the team, he eventually got his rewards by adding a 3rd shortly before half time and to rub salt into gaping Hampton wounds, Jamie was on hand to add a 4th before Juzza blew for half time. At half time, Brian came off for a well earned break and debut boy Cam, came on and slotted into centre mid. The 2nd half was a bit of a blur in terms of remembering chances/goals, because we had so many! Fresh legs in the form of Billy and Rocky took to the field and what an impact, Billy bagged himself a brace set up another 2, whilst Rocky also got in on the act by getting himself on the scoresheet. Brian came back on an added another to his growing tally, Sharkey also notched another, in hindsight we should of got at least 20 goals. Immy carried on his superb performance from the first half by adding another 2 more. To be fair, Hampton were well beaten but they never gave up. They kept going without arguing amongst eachother, which some teams may do given the scoreline. They were outplayed from the first whistle but were a credit to their club in the way they battled to the end. In the end it was a convincing victory, it may sound greedy but we need to be more clinical infront of goal but the good thing is, we are still creating chances and plenty of them. Next week will be a tough test as we travel to Leicester for our first away game of the season. Orv |
