Match Report
First game of the new season for ASB was against Welling, who from
experience are a well organised, pretty decent side. After waiting an
extra half an hour for the Welling kit to arrive and the team to get
changed ASB were ready and raring to go and lined up like this for
the first half:
GK: Naz
RB: Frangi
CB: Orv
CB: Tina
LB: Task
RM: Rocky
CM: Rizla
CM: Brian
LM: Slouch
ST: Babyface
ST: Immy
SUB: Woody, Zach, Rob

Welling kicked off the first half and were looking to hit their
wingers and strikers with balls in behind the ASB backline but they
were pretty well dealt with by the defenders and on occassion Naz.
ASB were trying to get the ball down and play our usual slick pass
and move football and it woz working quite well, Brian our new
scottish import was slotting in nicely with Riz at centre midfield
and both were pushing forward when the chance was there to support
the two strikers Nick and Immy.

After a spell of sustained presure ASB were getting closer and closer
to an opening goal and it didn't take long for itto come. Around the
20/25th minute a Welling move was broken up by the ASB on the right
side of the pitch and the ball came loose to Brian who laid it back
to Tina who sprayed it long up field to Nick who had peeled off his
marker and nodded the ball down into the path of the on rushing Brian
who slotted past the Welling keeper. A nicely worked team goal with a
classy finish from the debutant.

ASB tried to add to the scoreling before halftime and were looking
dangerous from set pieces Task whipped a peach of a free lick round
to the back post where Tina was waiting but only found the side
netting with a volley, Slouch won a free kick on the left hand side
of the Welling box, Nick chipped it in to the back post where Tina
and Riz were lurking but no-one could quite get a touch except a
Welling defender. Also Brian almost scored from a corner when he
swung it into the near post but it carried straight across the face
of goal and Welling put it out for another corner on the opposite
side bt nothing came from that either.

Immy was working his dribbling magic in his bright yellow boots,
going past 2 players and unleashing a shot from 20 yards but it
sailed wide, soon after Brain bulldozed through a couple of
challenges and lobbed the ball into the box but Nick couldn't direct
his header goalwards and the halftime whistle went.
During the break Woody took over between the sticks as Naz had to go
and Rocky went off for Zach to take his place, ASB went out with the
usual message from the gaffer score more goals and don't concede.

ASB kicked off the second half and started to play a bit better using
the wings more getting Slouch involved as we know what he is capable
of when given the service, Riz and Brian were still battling away in
centre mid and winning headers and launching more attacks. More
chances were coming and going repeatedly ASB were frustrated by the
narrow offside decisions that were going against them. ASB twice got
through 1 on 1 with the keeper but just couldn't find the back of the
net and it appeared that free kicks were our best chance of
increasing the slender lead. Task was whipping them in from the left
hand side but ASB just couldn't find the finish to match the quality
of delivery, Nick missing a free header and should of done better.

The game was pettering out slightly and ASB switched formation to
ensure the victory as in the last 10-15 minutes they were tiring, so
the switch to 4-5-1. Rob came on upfront, Slouch went off, Zach came
off as well and Rocky took up the left wing position with Nick and
Immy dropping into the midfield. Not many chances came in the last
few minutes Rob had a chance with his head but couldn't put it away.

So thats how the game finished 1-0 to ASB, the first 1-0 win in a
long time but still a win to kick off this years campaign.
